Simple question is how many fans are you running in your PC?
Count EVERY fan PSU, chipset. If its a fan and its on your PC count them up!
Im interested to see what numbers we come up with...

Its ok greedseed, im sure others will miscount also.
Most people dont realize how many fans they have until they count them up. Im all for removing fans to lessen the noise.

3x 120mm for front intake
1x 140mm upper exhaust
4x 80mm on the side window that replaced a 240mm stock fan that didnt move any air
4x 60mm beside the PCI slots just cause they fit there haha
4x 120mm on my lower rad
2x 120mm on my upper rad
1x 135mm(?) on my PSU
1x 60mm on my ram (will be gone once my tubing/parts arrive for it)

so: 16 total now.

I had 28 before when I was only using air haha.

9 currently

5 on rads (will go to 6 soon) 120mm
2 for chipset 90mm
1 in PSU 140mm
1 on fan controller 80mm

I hope to remove the 2 on the chipset with a fullcover waterblock, and the fan controller will likely get better sinks an pull the fan from it.

I prefer as much silence as possible.

Just save up some money.
Water cooling my GPUs was one of the best things I did to quiet down my PC.
I cant imagine how some people think the stock Nvidia fans at 100% isnt loud. I thought mine were loud at 50%!

Ive talked to a few people in person about this before and most people dont really know how many fans they have.
I start out with fans everywhere then I do loaded testing removing fans one by one reducing noise and power usage. I just removed 2 120mm fans the other day and my temps didnt change one bit. Im going to try and get rid of the Asus chipset fans because they are a bit loud.

well im changing my front 3 fans too noctua fans and im sure there more quiet than the standard antec ones!

if they dont change the temps ill change all fans too noctua, i find the gpu fan too be the loudest

Wow so it looks like most people on here are using 10+ fans in their rigs.

Septim
09-14-2009, 10:08 AM
yes, not because we have watercooling, that we forget the other parts of our rig needs airflow too...

Floyd
09-14-2009, 10:11 AM
True and with some people running push pull on their rads it really makes the numbers climb.
IMO the less fans you have the better (temps permitting)

Tiny

18 fans total
4 on each 120.2 rad (12 fans)
1 for HDD cage
1 for back panel
1 on PSU
1 on video card
2 blowing air in from the ac
------------------------------
After update there will be 35 fans. It's all about the performance for me. It can sound like a jet if it stays cool at 4.6GHz
6 on each of 3 120.3 rads (18 fans) rads going on the right side panel.
4 on each of 3 120.2 rads (12 fans)
1 for HDD cage
1 for back panel
1 on PSU
2 blowing air in from the ac

44?

2x 92mm Zalmans
3x 120mm Cooler Masters
2x 120mm Noctuas
6x 120mm Yates (Red)
2x 120mm Yates (Green)
4x 120mm NZXT
2x 120mm Scythe S-Flex
1x 120mm Akasa Apache
4x 140mm Acutakes
4x 140mm AABs
4x 140mm Silentiums
4x 140mm Yates
2x 140mm Cooler Masters
1x 140mm NZXT

No idea what's in the PSUs. 4 PSUs (using 3). Atleast one 135mm Sanyo Denki and one 140mm Yate. Also a bunch of no-name fans leftover in old machines that I wouldn't ever consider using these days.

Edit: I'm hoping to replace all those cheap 120mm Yates with Tacens Spiros.

To count the total fans on my rig would go to a better cause. Lets see, 3 external fans I count, could safely lower it, but how cares right? Bench cases ftw!
