View Full Version : Can a 140GTX cool your whole computer?

You saw it first on RRR.COM! :)
I set up a little prototype of how I am planning on rigging up my 560 GTXs in my next build.
Basically low noise 140s pulling for idle, with Delta FFB1424UHE 140s @ 12V pushing for load.
Here is how it looks on a 140 GTX

http://lh5.ggpht.com/_5JXSu5Gfgo4/STyyH_Z9eiI/AAAAAAAABSc/z5q0GTiIhqk/s800/DSC03519.JPG
I then hooked it into my PC for testing, replacing the 420 GTX in there at the moment

Here are the temps
http://lh3.ggpht.com/_5JXSu5Gfgo4/STyyKTiRkMI/AAAAAAAABSg/9Qwr832ANiA/s800/Delta140LoadTest.jpg
Load test is intelburn on low (thanks NAekuh) and Farcry2 for the GPU load.
Loop is RD30>140GTX>EK Supreme>BP NB/SB>EK Mosfet>EK Mosfet>2 Parallel EKFC8800>FUFUFUFUFUFUFUFU Flowmeter>EK Multioption Res
CPU Q6600 @ 1.52V
GPUs 2 x MSI 8800 Ultra OC (660 core speed)
Flow was 4.963 LPM or 1.63 GPM
I was amazed to see that 1 140 with a FUFUFUFUFUFUFUFU 140mm fan could cool my rig on idle, even more amazed to see that it could handle load when the delta was switched on.
Coolant Temps under load maxed at 29C, Idle with the delta off maxed at 33C at an ambient temp of 24C.

I never would have believed it. Still you need more radiator for that little touch of overkill. Kind of embarrasing to have a single 140 rad in your build...:ROTF:
Great work. Thanks for sharing it here at RRR.com

So u got all the opticals drives & fan controller coming out the side of the Case ?

Been doing things like that for years. We tout the thermal capacity of water, then we don't use it.
Granted, I'm overkilling mine too...

First let me say I can't believe how cool your cpu runs with all of those components.
I'm assuming the first graph is under load or at least slight load. Not sure if you overclocked, but based on the 1.52v, you probably are.
My x3210, b3, at 1.5v (3520mhz) mcr320 d5 runs around 62c load with an ek supreme.
Also, I'm assuming you have a 790i? I didn't know those could read nb temps.. hmm I'll have to check if my 780i can do that.
Great test. I've always knew those little rads could pull it off :)

Balzor i'm still looking for some UV blue to make some of those FCs out of. Not having much luck lol. I might contact DD & see what they can do for me. Also what's the measurement between the 2 blocks? I'm not sure what to order for joining the blocks with a fitting instead of stubbies & tubing.

Great stuff man, a very smart test and informative test. Amazing how much different a high speed fan makes doesn't it.
Thanks for taking the time to post the results.

Just thinking about this test last night and its starting to make sense.
The performance I get with the Delta on is roughly the same as my 420GTX with low (or normal) speed fans.
It makes sense that the performance of the rad is a function of the surface area, air flow rate, water/ambient air delta and water flow rate.
This can be reduced back to surface area X airflow rate so a 140 with 3x the air flow would equal a 420... which means that my 2 560s with deltas running will actially be 2 1680s... woah

The top part of the graph is the temps, the bottom part is load (0-100%) Processor is Q6600 @ 3.2
the board is a S2E
Temps are from everest stress test

Thats the standard X2000 layout... I like it, but they should have moved it further towards the back so you could mount a rad up the whole front... It coulda fit a 560 in there.
And dont worry about the beer... I make sure it never gets warm :D

Nice thx but I don't want to order from the UK I just wanted the measurement between the blocks. I have that Acrylic panel on my order for next week though thx! Wish we could get it in 5mm though damnit!

Good to know those Deltas don't mind starting up at 12v, their range officially starts at 14.
