Alright went out and picked up a new CPU today got home got it mounted, had to pull the board to replace the backplate on the GTZ that I stripped out DOH :( , but luckfully Gabe sent me a replacement. So I get it mounted and get it hooked back up and fire her up and the temps seem kinda weird...

Idle
Core 1 - 33
Core 2 - 33
Core 3 - 30
Core 4 - 39

So I'm like okay do I have a bad mount, so I remounted the GTZ and I get roughly the same temps. But when I run Intel Burn on it I get loaded temps of

Core 1 - 52
Core 2 - 53
Core 3 - 49
Core 4 - 51

Any ideas on what could be causing that last core to run so hot at idle?

Just some info to let you know what I'm running to see if that will help. DDC 3.2 > GTZ > 320MCR with High Speed Yates.

Taking Temp readings with Everest which I always use.

PS I have it overclocked right now at 3.4ghz @ 1.31V

Do you mean a Q9650? If so, idle temps has more to so with the way the DTS probes internal to the cores are set then anything else. Temps look fine either way, and load is the only that counts which looks great for those volts.

Sorry fat fingerd it meant the Q9550...

Maybe a mod could change that title for me....

I have the Q9550 also and I think you should be able to run it at 1.2V @ 3.6 no problem. You might want to try it.
Temps look fine, your still way within limits and the cores are never the same. My Q6600 had one core that was 7C higher at idle all the time.

if it stays @ 39 without moving lower then it's a stuck sensor & will go below that after you break it in slowly & they then unstuck themselves Both my Q9650's did that after 2 weeks all was fine

Yeah I've gotten her pulled down to 3.75 @ 1.2v, the sensor goes reads higher thats fine but never really see it move under 39.. and right now @ 3.75 I'm getting 31,31,28,39 on the cores...thanks for the heads up hopefully mine will unstick as well....

Yeah i find that they work best & LONGER if broke in slowly
IE; don\t do a massive O/C when new... i let mine idle for 2 days then move them up slowly

Yeah,

Some good advice there I think. Then after that, I hammer the crap out of um:D

Alright guys thanks for the heads up there as well, I got tired of it so I took it back to the local store I bought it from probably wouldn't have it they were just down the street you know. But anyways I get home and throw the new one in and tada now Core 3 is stuck! DAMN IT!!! But its better then the first one this one is only stuck at 35 not 39 haha. Well I'll let here run stock for the next couple of weeks hopefully that sensor will realize how much of a PITA its being and the other three will smack it around sum....later!

those do stick when NEW & as stated.
let it idle & work over the next few days & they usually come unstuck

as long as it not sticking on the way up in temp yer fine anyway ......

Yeah I did a prime95 just to make sure that the temp would move and it does so thanks for the reassurance!

Cool, have a blast. I have a lot of fun playing with chips. I've hammered my poor QX9650 to death, but I've learned a lot by doing it, and it still runs.

Crap I'm in trouble my chip never saw stock speeds!
I put everything together and booted into the bios and
changed it right away! Oh well...
