i'm not planning on overvolting my cpu much past 1.3(mainly becase its going to be in with a pair gtx 285's on a 120.3) but my main concern is how far can you overvolt the ram dimms(past 1.65) for safe 24/7 operation, i'm looking at some cellshock(which needs 1.7 for 1600mhz) so, what i'm asking is would 1.7 volts be safe for 24/7 use?

No worries whatsoever... I've been running some Patriot sticks for years at 2.1 volts. :) Sure, it's DDR2, but still a lot of juice to be sending to memory regardless.
My i7 has some G.SKILL running at 1600, it only needs a hair more than 1.5 volts to be stable though... you sure you need to push that much power to those dimms?

hard telling, the sticks are decent, so there isn't any reason why the shouldn't be able to run at 1.65 stable

If you need 1.7 volts to push cellshock sticks to 1600 I wouldnt scratch my balls with those things.

AFAIK the voltage limit has more to do with the onboard memory controller of the i7.

i've played with tripple channel ddr3's
gskills 2000 c9 ...doesn't like 1.8v
ocz blades 2000 c7.... been workin at 1.85v
kingstons 2000 c8 ..been working at 1.85v too
if you need 1.7v...that should be fine..you can always rma it :D
but anyways..ddr3 dual channel has been playing with 1.8v if you recall like 8-20months...
elpidas have some failure rate going on..check if your set is on the stop-sell list...
true the imc and the dram voltage are related...thats why intel specified not to go beyond a certain voltage...
1.7v isn't far from 1.65 ..i wouldn't worry about it.. its only 50mV higher.
