So I finally received my MM case and I am now starting to figure out exactly what I want to do with it.
My first impression is that there will be no shortage of room! This case is a monster.
If you look at the pic with the MM and the Cosmos together you can see the difference.
The theme for the case will be Red and Black like my (UN)Designs logo.
I am planning on doing dual loops like I have now.
The pumps will be mounted on the lower fans in the front with a red Absolute bracket on a black Z-Bracket.
The second row up will be all fans and the third row will probably have some
reservoirs that stick through the fan holes so you can see the coolant. I know two
reservoirs is overkill but I like the look.
I have three MCR320 coming in today that will go on top and I plan on using some
Bitspower fittings. I have not decided whether to use two of the rads in parallel or run
them in series. I would like to see some hard facts about the pros and cons of each.
There will be some custom channeling for the wires as I hate seeing wires.
Also I am soliciting advice on fans. I need quite a few and I want them to be somewhat
quiet. I do plan on using a fan controller for some of the fans. I will also try and use SS
screws wherever I can instead of the Black Oxide that come with it.
This build should take a month or two depending on what custom parts I decide to make. Thanks for checking it out.
Here are some of the parts I am considering:

Nice office-setup you got there dave.
Love the anodized finish.. Looks really nice. Could never tell what anodized on mm looks like, but the third pic really shows the quality of the finish. Simply gorgeous.
Why the top panel 120mm cutouts?
Are you going to use fan mesh?

Thanks Parker
Eddie the rads are going up top. Call me old school but I like the heat escaping out the top and the cool air will come from the front. There will be fan guards on all the fans.

So 3 radiators up top? Will look nice, thats for sure.

So here is the basic idea for the pump mounts. I am waiting on the fans so these are just for mockup. I wanted to get an idea of how I was going to hide the wiring for the front fans.

Looks good so far Dave,
I'd see for yourself what works best for the rads. What was your reason for going paralell anyways, what block are going to be in that loop? Those are some damn nice looking cases, that's for sure

Well I have more than enough cooling for what I want to do so I thought I would do something different. Also I really like the look of the bitspower fittings so I wanted to use some of them.
I have a fuzion v1 for the CPU and the EK fullcover for my 9800GX2.
Looks great man!!
I like the red on those brackets too. ;) Looks awesome. :)

Man my camera kinda sucks. The red is nice and dark but the pics make it look light. Fans and rads will be in soon!

Dave explain how you plan on hiding the wires with channeling . I'd be Very interested in hearing that .......

12-26-2008, 09:13 PM
I have a couple of ways I'm thinking of doing it.
My first option is to use U shaped aluminum extruded pieces
and run the wires inside. The second way is to use some channeling that
you would normally see in industrial applications for wiring.
There is some black ones that I really like the look of.
Also I am planning on machining the fan grill guards out of Aluminum.
This is preliminary but I have the 5-Axis Cincinnati lined up I just have to come up with the design. I am trying to avoid using multiple fan guards.
I really want one piece for the front and one piece for the back.
This is what I will be working on for the next week.

Just a quick update, I have been working on the front panel. Here is the preliminary drawing and there might be some minor changes with the middle hole.
The left and right holes on the top row are for the reservoirs.
I haven't decided on the color yet, it's either Red or Black.

That looks really nice. So will that alum piece go behind the stock brushed aluminum or on top?
Acrylic looks nice under aluminum, especially when lit up or even painted mesh.

It will go over the top as a fan guard.
I couldn't find anybody that actually makes one
this big so I have to make my own.
I will probably use some type of mesh
to keep the dust down.
The top may or may not be one piece.
It's pretty big so I may just go fan guards like
the ones you recommended.

They have red ones but I am not sure of the shade.
But yes the top ones will be red whether I have to paint
them to match or they happen to be the right shade.

Alright been up for awhile working on this.
This will be the final grill design for the front.
It was a major pain in the ass to model but
I got it done with a little help from my friends.
Also ordered a bunch of parts from Gary today so
look forward to some goodies by the end of the week.

Loving the Red theme. I have a pair of UN stands I picked up from RRR and love them. Keep up the good work.
Armeniandave
12-29-2008, 03:44 AM
Thanks I am also enjoying the red theme.
I remember making the brackets you bought from
RRR. These ones are a little darker red than those.
Its kinda hard to tell from the pictures.
BTW :welcome: to the site!
Wow that grill is SICK Dave!!! Never thought of having it an "all in one" part rather than have the front with just fan holes and putting grills on...:hmm2:
Keep up the good work! :clap1::clap1:

Well having one made up would cost around $200 so making one myself would obviously be the better route.
Not to mention the satisfaction of doing it yourself.

Looking good, Dave. :)
Since you were asking me about fans and noise, though... I'd suggest Yate Loons if you're trying to keep the cost of fans down but, beyond that, the acoustic characteristics of all of the S-Flex fans (except for the 'G' fan) are great--very smooth. The 1K and 2K Ultra Kaze fans are also quite good (aside from the usual shortcomings of sleeve bearings); however, I should note that the 3K Ultra Kaze seems to exhibit noticeably more stator noise than the 2K and 1K fans when running at comparable RPM (YMMV, it could have just been the fan I was using).

Alex thanks for the response. I will be going with Yates for the front and back fans and Scythe "E" for the rads. Being quiet was a priority as I already have way more cooling than I really need.
A couple of updates:
The rads are here!!
I temporarily put them up top so I could get a feeling
of how the tubing and fittings need to be ran.
I am waiting on fans and grill guards for the top before
they are mounted for good.
I am pretty sure this will work better than my two MCR220s I have right now!!!
Also trying to decide on the pump placement. The attached pic shows the pumps on either side making it more symmetrical. Its just the aesthetics person in me I guess as either way will work.
Tomorrow I should get the front and back fans and Thursday I should get the top ones.
Also the top and back grills should be in later this week or early next week (hopefully).

Those freaking Ascensions are sooo effin' awesome, I just wasted $200 on a case, having to force myself to spend another $400+ on a case will make me have a heart attack lol.

Seriously you better have some place
to put it when it's done cause this thing
is unbelievably big.
I showed it too a couple of people who
don't know too much about computers
and the first thing out of there mouth is
always how frickin big it is.

yeah they look big, but the watercooling possibilities just don't end lol. I just bought a thermaltake armour+, its got space to mount a single rad on the top, dual fan with slight modding it, i will try and mount a 120.4 to the back and another 120.2 fits in the bottom. However I might have someone make me a radbox, kinda what FIT is doing, but smaller, mine will not be as crazy as his. for now im just saving up some money, once I have some saved it, then i'll decide what to do, but your brackets are a MUST!!! lol.

Alright I have refined the grill a little more.
The top holes on the left and right are more
than likely going to be reservoirs. I am still
waiting on them before I make the final dimensions.
Enjoy!!

Very nice build especially like the pump mounts. I've got to stop looking at all these MM Ascension builds though. Makes me want to pull the trigger on my getting myself one. :crazed: Still cant figure out which color to buy this or wrinkle black.
Armeniandave
12-30-2008, 02:00 AM
Thanks!
I was originally going to go with the wrinkle finish but then
I thought about all the custom stuff I wanted to do so I
decided on the Anodized black.
Honestly there all really nice, it just depends on your preference. Also if you keep looking at these cases you
will do what I did and end up buying one. :)

Here's the final grill design.
I decided not to do the res in the top
fan holes.
Should get more parts this week and by the looks of things
this project may go a little faster than planned.
It all depends on how the wiring goes!

Just a quick update.
Because of the holidays all the stuff I ordered
has been delayed in shipping.
The grill is finalized and should be cut on Monday.
I'll post pics when I get them.
After I cut it I will decide whether to paint it or anodize it.
Either way it will more than likely be red.
Hmmm, Daaaaaaaaaave...... where is update? :D
